3 Unique Family Reunion Theme Ideas for This Summer

When planning a family reunion, time seems to jump from Christmas, straight to a week or 2 before your family reunion and planning is even harder when you don’t even know where to start. So here are a few ideas to get you going, with food, activities and cute t-shirt ideas included 😉
1. Family Olympics
Activities:
Hold Olympic event championships for your family. Have each family compete against each other or split it up by age. Some challenges could include soccer, volleyball, wiffle ball, 3 legged races, frisbee discus throw, an eating contest, the possibilities are endless. You know your family, pick fun things that you love to play together.
Food:
Start your day off with a “breakfast of champions”, treat yourself with Olympic torch popcorn and red white and blue fruit skewers, then finish with a potluck to bring everyone together. Don’t forget to announce the winners with candy themed medals.
3. Cook-Off, Family Edition
Activities:
Yard games for the win! Keep everyone close to the action but still laughing and catching up over a little competition. These could include horseshoe, corn hole, life sized jenga, waterfights, beach (or yard) volleyball, the options are endless.
Food:
Show your family who’s best, with a back-yard, BBQ cook-off! Everyone cooks their specialty and, at the end of the day, everyone to vote on whose cooking was the best. Winner gets bragging rights, and first dibs on dessert ;P
2. Back to Our Roots/Family tree
Activities:
Share family memories (and document), find and clean up ancestral cemetery plots, create wall charts to show how everyone is related (and who your most famous ancestors are), you can even make your own family trees with a tree silhouette and each members fingerprints.
Food:
Secret family recipes, grandma’s chocolate chip cookies, Aunt May’s famous white chicken chili, camp fire ____ fill in the whatever you want. This is the time to pull out all the stops for family favorites! You can even host cooking classes to master each delicious dish.
